Pay-per-click (PPC) marketing, also known as paid search can be a black hole for newbies. Beginners are attracted to the simplicity of the PPC model, where one can drive traffic virtually instantly to any web page they want usually for a low cost-per-click. Their cash is then subsequently sucked out of their credit cards because they either forget to monitor their campaigns or they put up bad campaigns to begin with. Plus, they never followed the following three tips for getting started with PPC marketing:

1. Do your homework (research).
The search engines will reward your ads for relevancy. The more relevant your ads are, the higher they’ll rank and the less you’ll have to pay for those rankings. The first step towards achieving higher relevancy is to do your keyword research.
Let’s say you want to drive traffic to your landing page where you want to build a list. First, find common keyword phrases in your niche to target. Then, generate long tail keywords by adding modifiers to those broad keywords. “Golf” is a broad keyword, while “how to improve your golf swing” is a long tail keyword. You can expect to pay well over a dollar per click for broad keywords. On the other hand, long tail keywords have far less competition because less people search for those terms, so get used to paying less than a quarter per click for these terms.
2. Stay relevant.
This relates to tip #1, but having a relevant campaign will drastically increase your ROI. There are a few components of an ad campaign, many of which can be optimized for relevancy.
For example, as previously mentioned, your keywords need to be relevant. If you try displaying a weight loss ad for an online marketing keyword, the search engines are going to slap you with a ridiculously high cost-per-click. Therefore, your ad copy also needs to be relevant. Ideally, you should include the full keyword in your ad copy. This means creating a new ad for each of your keywords. It seems like a lot of work now, but it’ll save you a lot of money in the long run.
Another important part of your campaign which needs to be optimized is your landing page. Basically, your main keywords need to be found a few times on your landing page in places like the domain name, the headline, and the body text.
The bottom line — someone who clicks on your ad expecting to see a solution for a receding hair line and, instead finds a website for your home business opportunity is going to get you whacked by the search engines, whose goal is relevancy for the user.

3. Don’t “set and forget”.
There’s no such thing as autopilot profits with PPC – you have to constantly monitor, test, and tweak your ad campaigns to ensure that everything is running smoothly. Your cost-per-click could suddenly jump, for example, and you’ll want to be there when it does to compensate for it. Some of your ads could suddenly start experiencing a low click-through rate, in which case you would want to test new ad copy, test new keywords, or dump the ad. It takes constant monitoring to ensure that you pay as little as possible per click, achieve the best rankings, and get the best click-through rates. It’s a lot of work, but it pays massive dividends.

What is website conversion rate? It is the most important metric you need to track for your business since it will help your determine the success of your website to get people to buy the product or service you are promoting.

The website conversion rate measures the ratio of those who are customers paying for your product or service to those who visited your website. The more visitors to your website who become paying customers the more your sales improve with the given amount of visitor traffic you get to your site.

The reason this is important is that it affects the bottom line of your business and determines whether your efforts are paying off or being wasted. The bottom line is that you need to do what is best for your business and what is best to get your customers to want to buy your product or service.

There are many reasons why your website may not be converting the visitors you are getting to paying customers at a rate which would generate greater profits for your website. The reasons involve website design, knowledge of your target market, content which does not speak to your visitors, and/or simply a lack of focus on the product or service and how it will benefit the visitor enough to buy.

You can work toward increasing your website sales by testing your website design. You can do this first by checking out your competition in your target market. This can be done by looking at your leading competitors and seeing what they are doing with their websites. They would know what is working and can shorten your learning curve.

Of course, you also need to learn about the visitors of the marketplace to whom you are targeting your sales campaign. You can do this by looking for blogs and forums which they visit or joining groups in social media sites like Facebook or MySpace. When you do this you will be able to gather information and actually generate a relationship with your potential customers.

After you have done the above you can revisit your site design and content and see what you can do to improve it to match the profile of your customer. While you are doing this you will look at many variables and decide which you would like to test by creating a multivariate test. A multivariate test is done by selecting many different portions of your site design and content to be tested and using a tool which will present your website with the changes to each variable along with tracking information of what customers did for each variable change. The changes which increased conversion of visitors to paying customers are the ones you will keep while discarding those that were less successful.

There are other methods you can use as well. You can provide contests as an incentive to your visitors to buy. You can also focus on your customer because it is all about how what you are promoting with your website benefits them.

You’ve probably heard me mention or briefly discuss Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising before. PPC ads are simply the paid ads that appear before and to the side on most Google and Yahoo search result screens. These ads come from advertisers looking to draw visitors to their sites. Google and Yahoo both have their own systems for managing these ads. Google’s, which is by far the biggest, is called AdWords. Yahoo’s is called Yahoo Search Marketing (formerly known as Overture). There are several others out there but they receive far less traffic and ultimately will end up costing advertisers more in the long run, so I usually don’t focus much on them.
Most of what I have taught you thus far focuses on generating free Internet traffic through optimizing your site to rank high within the search engines organically. However PPC advertising has many benefits and advantages that make it an important if not integral part of any effective Internet Marketing strategy.

Whenever anyone whom I consider an Internet Marketing newbie tells me they are going to start an AdWords campaign, my first thought is “He is going to lose his shirt”. And most of the time, I am right on. Statistically, almost 95% of PPC advertisers lose money on their campaigns, meaning they spend more than the revenue they generate from the visitors they are attracting. So then why in the world am I endorsing PPC as an important and potentially lucrative Internet Marketing strategy? Because if done correctly, PPC can do wonders for your website traffic and thus, your bottom line. The information I am going to share with you here is worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars or more. After you finish reading this you will know more about PPC then 98% of advertisers, and that is what is going to put you among the 5% that realize huge profits, and not the 95% that end up going broke.

How PPC Advertising Works
All PPC advertising systems work in the same basic way. Potential advertisers create an account, write some ads, compile a list of keywords, set a maximum cost per click (CPC) they are willing to pay, and set a daily spending limit. Ads are then displayed automatically whenever a web surfer performs a search on one of the keywords the advertiser has listed. How often and in what position an ad is displayed depends on two factors. First and foremost is the CPC that has been set. PPC systems work on an auction style format so whoever has bid the most on a particular keyword will get the top spot, followed by the second highest bidder, and so on. The second and less important factor in determining placement of ads is the ad’s conversion rate. Conversion rate is simply the number of times an ad has been clicked on, divided by the number of times it has been displayed. High quality, well written ads generally have a higher conversion rate and are given more weight by the PPC system.
I mentioned before that PPC has many benefits and one of the biggest is time. You can have an AdWords campaign up and running in minutes and begin receiving the first visitors to your site in less than an hour! Compare this to the time it takes to properly optimize your website, get indexed, and rank well enough in order to get clicked on and generate traffic organically. When I say you can begin generating traffic in less than an hour, I’m not talking about just any traffic. I’m talking about HIGHLY TARGETED visitors to your site, actively searching and looking for exactly what you are offering.
We are going to talk mostly about Google’s AdWords throughout this article, but the same principles apply to other systems as well. Keep in mind that I fully endorse AdWords and while you make hear others say that you shouldn’t use Adwords because it is more expensive than other systems, remember that you get what you pay for. If done the way I teach, Adwords will actually SAVE you money in the long run and provide a much better return on your investment than any other system out there.

Setting Up Your Campaign
Getting started with AdWords is much easier than you might think if you are new to PPC. Setting up an account is as simple as going to and registering your basic information. Once you have completed that first step, you will be taken to the campaign setup screen. This is where you will enter the name of your campaign, the website you are promoting, etc. From here, we will go to the Ad groups section where you will create your Ad group. This is just used to create different variations within your main campaign for tracking purposes. The next two tasks are the most important, creating your ads, and generating a keyword list.

The difference between a well constructed written ad and a poorly written one can be like night and day when it comes to clicks and ultimately conversions. A few basic things to keep in mind when writing your ads: Always try to use your main keyword within the title of the ad. It has been proven that people are more likely to click on an ad that contains the exact term they just searched for (makes sense doesn’t it?) Give people a reason for wanting to click on your ad BUT make sure it is not misleading. You don’t want unnecessary clicks if they are not going to lead conversions. The goal is to make sure that we are getting clicks from people that are actually looking to purchase what we are selling. Make your ad clearly states what it is your site is offering so that only those interested in exactly what it is you have will click. This will t down on “window shoppers” and ultimately lead to a much higher conversion rate. Remember, getting a lot of clicks is no big accomplishment… It just means a lot of wasted money if the clicks don’t equal sales.
There are two parts to a PPC ad; a riveting title/heading and a compelling description. The title is the key to attracting the searcher’s attention – if it contains the keywords that are being searched for, the keywords will show up in bold and help make the ad more visible. Focus on the user and the benefits your website/product will provide. If it helps, you can make a bulleted list of key terms that highlight your business and spread them throughout your ads. Use the title to grab the searcher’s attention, and then reel them in with your ad description.

In the first place, take some time to carefully design your banner ads. If you are feeling uncertain, and if you have the money, get someone with some experience to put them together for you. Good design and an attractive look are quite important. You will want to make sure that your site has a place for people to download some banner ads and to put them up on their own site should they want to give you some free advertising!

For the most part, you will find that your banner ads will be posted through networks of similar websites. There are plenty of networks out there that you can join where you will be asked to provide some advertising space on your website in exchange for having your banner up on someone else’s site. This type of exchange, when the network is focused on targeting and making sure that only relevant sits join, can be instrumental in making sure that you get your site marketed correctly.

You will find that you should start by doing your research. What networks are going to be focusing on the right clients for your site? Some networks are extremely tightly focused, but small, while others are very large, but cover sites that only have a very small amount of things in common. Think about who you believe your market is, and make sure that the sites where your ad will appear will be places that they frequent.

When you are thinking about banner advertising, also keep an eye on what is going up on your site. In some exchanges, you need to put two ads in exchange for having one of your ads put up somewhere. Make sure that you integrate the ads on your site harmoniously, and make sure that you think about what you can do to ensure that the ads you put up are things that your audience wants to see.

Banner advertising can be quite profitable for you in the long run, so take some time and make sure that you are going to get your money’s worth out of it!

// ]]>

If in your site there is a link to another site, that’s mean you vote for them and referring your visitors to that site. Some times your visitors will also check out the businesses that you sponsor on your site and perhaps do business with them, as well. But if you have embedded your credibility to your customers you don’t need to worry about loosing your customers. That is a simple explanation about the benefit of one way link for your site. Now lets do the converse, implement your link building campaign to find back links for your site as much as you could. As I said before, if you can put your URL in other websites as a back link to your site, that’s mean they recommended your site to their visitors as a trusted useful information source. Lets take the advantage of receiving traffics which referred by numerous quality website. Some of the common ways to build your back links are by commenting in other article or blogs, active in a forum that related, web submission and article submission.

In their consideration, search engine will give a better listing of the search result for the website which has a good link popularity. Every search engine has their own algorithm to rank a website. One of the most crucial factor is the number of quality back links. The content is a king, that’s right but back link is the soldier. A kingdom without soldier is nothing. To do your link building campaign for getting more quality back links for your site, the first step to start is submit your site to website directories. Or if you sell a product, get listed in some good e-shop or B2B website.

Article marketing is another great way in implementing link building campaign. Write some sort article but contain a useful information for your audience. Consider also about the keyword density, then submit them to your site and to article directories in some regular basis. Once your site known as an informative site, your visitors and other site will recommend your site to other without you ask for. A very advantage method. Now you should start to learn about how to write a good article. Find a professional copywriter to write a press release for your website. This is another excellent way in get the greater return for your link building campaign.

If you selling a product or services, setting up an affiliate program will give you a great help in advertising and building you link popularity. Offer a percentage of any selling of your publisher could make and they will set a link to your site with pleasure. Do not cheat them, pay what you should pay, and your business will keep running.

Now days, the major search engine changing their algorithm regularly to kick out the site which use black hat method to get the high ranking. Do not ever use that method. Once the search engine know your site will get penalized or even banned. The final conclusion, a link building campaign is a process that should be working on. If your link building campaign grows up, so will your website.

Those heavily involved with PPC marketing understand that not every person who clicks on an ad will make a purchase. It would be purely fantastical to assume that 80% of the people who click on your ads will buy. After all, not everyone who visits a department store buys anything. And yes, there will also those that will click through who never had any interest in making a purchase. They just want to look at your website for informational purposes and you have to pay for these clicks regardless. Now, this is to be expected and it is not worth dwelling over. The way to overcome the problem is to maximize your potential as far as converting customers. But, you can only do so much if someone is purposely committing click fraud against you.

There are those who may purposely click on your PPC ads solely for the purpose of driving up your costs and reducing the number of ads you place on the internet. This also depletes the money in your account reducing the amount of time your ads are floating on the internet. Such problematic people need to be stopped from further eroding your business’ ad campaign. The way to do this is to review your campaign’s analytical data and look for suspicious details that would indicate such a problem is occurring.

How is this possible? It can be achieved through the use of ad tracking tools that can display information in a clear manner. A close overview of highly detailed and accurate statistical data will show when and where a click fraud problem is emerging. From this, it becomes possible to take the steps required to cease such fraud and abuse and protect your business. Once again, proper ad tracking tools can help deliver such help.

People who commit malicious click are no different than any other type of person – they are creatures of habit. That means they will have a tendency to be very predictable in their behavior. Upon looking at an analyzer tool or PPC tracking program, you can pinpoint a number of their common traits in order to take proper steps to deal with them.

For example, the data on your click through statistic will notate the time of the clicks, the date, where the person was referred, and even URL and IP information. If the same IP has clicked on 10 ads on the same day this might be a clear indication of click fraud. If a pattern of this type of behavior starts becomes evident in your PPC tracking stats, then it may be likely you are dealing with malicious click fraud.

Logging such data becomes helpful when it comes time to report the information to the PPC host. Simply stating you believe you are a victim of click fraud may not be enough to receive a refund. You may need to prove your case. Presenting the host with detailed analytical data can definitely help sway opinions on your favor. This may allow you to receive a return credit for the money you were charged due to fraud.

But, the key here is that you must stay on top of all your statistical data and analytical reports. If you fall behind and do not notice the click fraud when it occurs, it can prove difficult to fix things after they are too far gone.

The methods employed to increase your search engine rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell you – the time has come to face your website! A high search engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this issue.

At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on the Internet find websites through search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted customers to your site who will be more than likely to make a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your website. That’s what search engine optimization is about.

You can immerse yourself in all the technical information available online to figure out how to optimize your web pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments, and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The first item you should examine is the title bar on your homepage.

The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Look at the words that appear there when you access your home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on your homepage’s title bar should include the most important keywords or phrases, one of which would include your company name.

Then click on all your links and examine the title bars on the pages you access. Each title bar on every single page of your site should contain the most important keywords and phrases taken from the page itself. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.

The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Search engines generally list sites that contain quality content rather than scintillating graphics. The text on your site must contain the most important keywords – the words that potential customers will be typing into search engines to find your site.

Aim to have around 250 words on each page, but if this is not desirable due to your design, aim for at least 100 carefully chosen words. If you want to achieve a high ranking on search engines, this text is essential. However, the search engines must be able to read the text, meaning that the text must be in HTML and not graphic format.

To find out if your text is in HTML format, take your cursor and try to highlight a word or two. If you are able to do this, the text is HTML. If the text will not highlight, it is probably in graphic form. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings.

Next we come to what is called meta tags. I know this sounds like something out of science fiction, but it is really just simple code. Many people believe that meta tags are the key to high search engine rankings, but in reality, they only have a limited effect. Still, it’s worth adding them in the event that a search engine will use meta tags in their ranking formula.

To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code. To do this, click the “view” button on the browser menu bar, and select “source.” This will pull up a window revealing the underlying code that created the page. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. For example, a meta tag would read: meta name=”keywords” content=. If you do not find code that reads like this, ask your webmaster to put them in. This may not do much for your search engine rankings, but any little boost helps.

Lastly, we come to the issue of link popularity. This is a factor that is extremely important in terms of search engine rankings. Almost all search engines use link popularity to rank your website. Link popularity is based on the quality of the sites you have linked to from your links page.

If you type in “free link popularity check” in a popular search engine, the search engine will then show you what sites are linked to your site. In the case that there aren’t many sites linked up to yours, or that the sites that are linked up have low search engine rankings, consider launching a link popularity campaign. Essentially, this entails contacting quality sites and requesting that they exchange links with your site. Of course, this requires checking out the rankings of the websites you want to link up with. Linking to popular, quality sites not only boosts your search engine ranking, but it also directs more quality traffic to your website.

Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Before you go out and hire a search engine optimization company, try taking some of the simple steps listed above, and see if you can’t boost your rankings yourself. Don’t ever ignore this all-important factor in Internet marketing. Remember, the higher your search engine ranking, the more quality customers will be directed your way.

But while most people click on sponsored listings based on ranking (that’s why marketers splurge to get ranked number one), many will click on a natural search listing based on recognizing the brand. So brand awareness matters big time if you want to increase the likelihood that prospects will click on your search listing. This is especially true since research shows that people click on natural search listings more than 70% of the time!

Not convinced of the importance of brand awareness? Then let me say it another way: people are more likely to buy from a brand they’ve heard of.

Here are some ways to create brand awareness for your online business:

* Issue press releases. Doesn’t matter how big or small your company is. Let your prospects know when you have important news that they’ll find compelling. And these days it’s pretty easy and costs only $25 to $100 to issue a press release. Interested? Take a look at PR Newswire and 1888 Press Release to get started.

* Run ad banner campaigns. Yes, buy ad banners! Banner advertising is a great way to generate brand awareness with your target prospects. And there are lots of ad networks and websites that cater to advertisers with limited marketing dollars to spend. For example, check out these ad networks: BuySellAds and AdBrite.

* Publish content. Creating and publishing informative content is more important than ever in making prospects aware of you and your brand. So write articles, comment on blogs (create your own!), participate in online forums… and always mention your brand. Just be patient as it does take awhile. But before you know it you’ll start to create brand awareness (and website traffic too!)

* Leverage social media. There’s a lot of buzz about Facebook, Twitter, YouTube… to name just a few social media sites. And whether or not you understand what these sites are all about… your business needs to participate. It really does. So invest the time to learn how social media can help you get the word out about your brand.

There’s a lot to chew on here… so make sure and pace yourself. You don’t need to do it all at once to start getting prospects to recognize your brand.

How about first doing a press release on that big customer you just landed? Meanwhile, get started running an ad banner campaign that really cements your brand in the mind of your target market. And get in the habit of commenting on blog sites you like to read. Then see who in your company (maybe you) likes to write and put them in charge of your website’s blog. Next up is launching your website’s Facebook page, Twitter account, and then some videos for YouTube.

As I said… there’s a lot to do! The good news is that every step you take generates more brand awareness. Did I mention that prospects are more likely to buy from you if they’re already familiar with your brand?

When it comes to off site SEO, a bit of work is required, and since these factors are out of your control, in comparison to the methods of on-site SEO that you can create and tweak yourself, it’s important to stay on top of your progress to get targeted website trafficand to consistently work at improving your rankings in the search engines through these methods.

//
 google_ad_client = "pub-1580129458799088"; /* 468x60, created 6/14/09 */ google_ad_slot = "4252380589"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 60;

With off-site SEO, one of the leading factors of how well you will rank within the search engines is based on the weight of how relevant your website is. One of the ways that search engines determine this is by the incoming links to your website from external sites, known as back-links.

With bank links, the more closely knit to the topic of your site itself, the more important they are perceived by the search engines, meaning, don’t just create a back link campaign that has every and any website linking to you, but instead, focus on finding authority sites or established websites that will produce targeted website traffic that cater to the same target audience or customer base that you do.

To begin, you can offer to trade links with other websites and blogs in your market, or purchase back links from authority websites. One thing to keep in mind however is that search engines check for sudden changes in your incoming links, meaning that if you were to purchase a massive number of incoming links to get targeted website traffic to your site, or participate in what is known as “link farms”, it could set off a red flag and possibly damage your ability to rank

well.

What you want to do is set up a backlink campaign that appears natural to search engines, so that you slowly and consistently build backlinks rather than all at once. Another thing that you want to pay attention to are the keywords and text that are used when other sites link to you. If you have the ability to request a webmaster to use specific titles in the text, you should do your best to focus on your primary keywords, such as “Dog Training Resource”, or “Cake Decorating Tips”, depending on the content of your site. These text links when using relevant keywords are referred to as “anchor text”, and since you want to rank for a series of keyword phrases in the search engines to get targeted website traffic, you should try to generate backlinks to your website using various keyword phrases and text links, rather than always using the same combination.

For example, if a blog or website is linking to you, rather than feature a link like this:

Your Domain Name You would want to use something like this:

Relevant Keyword Here

You will also want to focus on creating as many incoming links as possible while limiting external links from your site to others as much as you can. The easiest way to garner incoming links and get targeted website traffic without the requirement of a trade is to post on blogs, linking to your site within your comment box, or on forums and communities where you can promote your website and generate link-backs frequently.

The only problem with generating links from forums is that often times forums will archive their content once they reach a certain number of posts. Once it’s archived, they may not be seen in the search engines any longer, so it’s always best to focus on blogs or avenues in which your link is more likely to remain for a long period of time.

Blog Commenting is by the far, one of the best resources for generating incoming links to your site. When posting comments however, you MUST ensure that your comments are relevant to the topic being discussed (otherwise the blog owner will remove your comment and possibly ban you from further participating in discussions).

You also want to rotate anchor text so that you are using different keywords that pertain to your sites content to get targeted website traffic.

//
